Change is hard. Hard change is especially hard.

You have heard people say this…”Change is hard.”  I know I have.  I have said it a million times.  For some reason, even a slight shift in our norm can send us spiraling.

There are different types of change.  Time change, hair color change, Daylight Savings Time (a super hard change in our house!), season change, temperature change, detours, job change…you get the idea.  There are all levels and types of change.

Notice that I mentioned that Daylight Savings Time is a huge change for our family.  You might chuckle at that or wonder “what is the big deal?”  For some reason, Steve and I have a difficult time adjusting to the time change.  One day, we are getting up early to do our quiet time and exercise and feeling good…and the next day, we can barely drag ourselves out of bed.  It’s been MONTHS since the time change and we are still struggling.  (Who knew?!)  Something as simple as an hour difference has rocked our world.

However, back when we felt God was calling us to move to South Florida from Boston, we embraced it (even though we don’t like heat, the beach, or flat land) and made a pretty smooth transition to a new place.  You’d think that a major geographical move to a place you are not particularly fond of would be a hard change.  Now, I am not saying that it didn’t have its challenges.  But, generally speaking, it wasn’t that hard.

But getting out of bed after Daylight Savings Time was a HARD CHANGE.

Go Figure.

Did you figure out the difference between these changes?  On the grand scale, what should have been easy was hard, and what should have been hard was easy.  But one of those changes in our life was missing a vital component.

When we moved to South Florida, we knew it was God that was calling us here.  We prayed and we sought Him out to confirm it.  God was all over that move.  We could FEEL His guidance and direction.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6

So, we trusted God and submitted to Him in making the decision to move.  And He gave us peace that passes all understanding.  (Phil 4:7)  We handed that move over to God and He lead us on His path.

How about that Daylight Savings thing?  I didn’t seek God about that.  Honestly, it didn’t even cross my mind.  Instead, I self-loathed.  Each day, I got more and more disgruntled.  I was so disappointed in myself.  But somehow, I still did not seek God.

And I wasn’t the only one not waking up.  My husband was dragging himself out of bed, too.  So, then I started to resent that.  Why couldn’t he get up and then I would get up too?  And on and on.  So now this “little” change is getting HARDER and HARDER.

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man, this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.

Matthew 19:26

ALL.  ALL things are possible.  With God, ALL things are possible.  Big, small, easy, hard.  Little changes and big changes.  ALL things are possible with God.

What can make a hard change

not so hard?  GOD.

So, I am praying to God to help me get up in the morning.  And I am learning the valuable lesson of seeking God in what may seem like a “little thing.”  If He knows every hair on my head (Luke 12:7), then He probably wants to be a part of every piece of my life…even my struggle with time change.  Just knowing that I CAN seek Him for help with this has already made that hard change not so hard.

What change is hard for you right now?
